Rationale for tiered pricingAIP introduced tiered pricing in 2004, in an effort to establish fairer prices for online access for institutions of different size and research intensity. Our plan was developed in consultation with librarians representing a number of large institutions. Journals Affected by tiered pricing
The following package subscriptions which include these titles also have tiered prices.
Please note that the following AIP titles are not subject to tiered pricing. All subscriptions are priced equally.
Computation of AIP tiersTier assignments are derived from an activity index that is computed using downloads of articles, past subscription history, and authorship. The tiers are as consistent as possible with the Carnegie classification scheme for North American universities; however all institutions worldwide are assigned tiers by the same measure. Click here for details of the methodology for computation of institutional tiers for 2008. 2008 pricesPlease click here for 2008 prices. Tier assignments for 2008 will remain the same as in 2007. Tiered subscription prices apply to single-copy print plus online, online-only, and quarterly CD-Rom plus online subscriptions. Multiple print copies are offered at a substantial discount. For institutions that place a single order for multiple copies of a journal sent to the same location (or campus), the second and subsequent copies of the journal will be billed at 50% of the Tier 1 price for the journal.
